Around Here Week 41

Look no further than aircraft for aerodynamic designs. I found this one at the MAPS air museum close by the Akron Canton airport.  I never thought I’d spend time looking at old airplanes, but there I was with my brother, peering into cockpits that seemed too small for any adult.

This view looking back from an observation platform has possibilities for a modern style quilt. I like all the rivets and would try to print them on fabric. I’d also try to echo the curvature of the plane’s body.

  1. Very interesting photo. The more I know about airplanes, the more I enjoy looking at them. So far I haven’t incorporated them into quilts (other than small bits of printed fabric,) but perhaps someday… Thanks for sharing.

    • I suspect that your son’s profession has exposed you to lots of planes. I hadn’t realized how much diversity there is in their design.

      • Oh, I’m sure it has. In the last couple of years we’ve been to 3 top-notch air/space museums. We’ve been to some others in the past, and Jim’s been to 2 or 3 without me. The museum at Dayton is fabulous, if you get a chance to get over there. Plan to spend a few hours. 🙂

  2. Leave it to you to see a quilt design in an plane! In my youth I spent some time on flight lines and air-crate carriers looking at old planes and never thought of them as inspiration. But now I can see exactly where you are coming from.

  3. LOTS to work with here–what an interesting source of ideas.
