Since I live in a city much of my inspiration comes from urban artifacts. Case in point is an iron grill like many found throughout my city. I like the heavy curves and the spool shaped links between the horizontal bars. The printing adds character, and the shadows cast in the drain are intriguing. I tried to get a better shot of the shadows, but the sun’s angle was wrong. Maybe I could expand the shadows and have them show behind an upright iron curtain.
Don’t you think it’s interesting that the people who make metal grates actually seem concerned about a pleasing design?! This one is very attractive!
There are certainly some fine looking grates and manhole covers around. It turns out MIT Press has published a book on them https://www.amazon.com/Manhole-Covers-Press-Mimi-Melnick/dp/0262133024. Then, there’s an LA cover that’s stamped “Made in Mexico.” Pretty funny. http://www.lataco.com/man-hole-covers-downtown-la/
Cool grill. Is there a date on it elsewhere? Thanks for pointing out the spools and the shadow. You really “look” at things when you look and you see so much!
I looked for a date but didn’t find one. Maybe I’m finally heading the advice of my high school art teacher to really look at things.
I know I don’t say much on most of these pix, but I am enjoying your series.
Glad you’re finding it fun. I’m trying to train my eye to notice the often overlooked things that have artistic potential.
Absolutely quilt like!
Definitely has a modern vibe.
